Frequently Asked Questions About Our Programs

We know you have questions before starting. Here are honest answers to the ones we hear most often, and links to deeper resources for each program.

Inpatient detox requires you to stay at a facility 24 hours a day. Outpatient detox provides the same physician-supervised medical care, monitoring, medication, clinical support, but you attend daily appointments of approximately one hour and return home afterward. For patients with a stable home environment and mild to moderate withdrawal risk, outpatient detox is equally effective and far less disruptive. Learn more on our Outpatient Detox page.
Yes, and that's by design. Most patients continue working full schedules throughout their detox. You come in for one hour each day, receive your care, and go about your normal routine. We work with you to schedule your appointment at a time that minimizes disruption to your workday.
Our program treats withdrawal from alcohol, opioids (including heroin and fentanyl), benzodiazepines, prescription stimulants, cocaine, cannabis, and codeine. Each patient is evaluated individually, and a treatment plan is built around the specific substance and their medical history. Not every substance or situation is appropriate for outpatient care, our physician will be upfront about whether our program is the right fit.
MAT uses FDA-approved medications such as Suboxone, Vivitrol, or Naltrexone to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings during detox. Not every patient requires MAT, your physician determines this during your initial evaluation based on the substance, severity of dependence, and your individual health. When appropriate, MAT significantly improves completion rates and reduces discomfort. Learn more on our MAT program page.
Program length depends on the substance, duration of use, and your individual health. Most patients complete detox within several days to a few weeks. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal typically requires more careful management and may take longer. Your physician will give you a realistic timeline during your intake evaluation. Our Day by Day guide walks through what to expect at each stage.
Outpatient detox is safe for patients who are medically appropriate for this level of care, which is determined before you begin. Our physician evaluates every patient to confirm they are stable enough to detox in an outpatient setting. Daily appointments allow our team to monitor for any changes and adjust your protocol if needed. Patients with severe withdrawal risk, such as a history of alcohol seizures or delirium tremens, may be referred to a higher level of care for their safety.
Most major commercial insurance plans cover outpatient detox and MAT under substance use disorder benefits, as required by the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. Our admissions team verifies your benefits before you start, at no cost and no commitment required. Call us at 888-753-3869 or use our insurance verification form to get started.
Detox is the first step, not the finish line. As you near the end of your program, your care team will work with you to develop a transition plan that may include outpatient rehab, individual counseling, group support, or ongoing MAT maintenance. We do not discharge patients without a clear plan for what comes next. Our goal is your long-term recovery, not just completing the program.
Our program is led by Dr. John David Lentz III, MD, MBA, a board-certified family physician with over 45 years of clinical experience and a background in both military medicine and clinical research. All care plans are built and supervised by Dr. Lentz and our licensed clinical team. Visit our Providers page or Dr. Lentz's profile to learn more.
